This morning, while enjoying my second cup of coffee, I stepped out onto my balcony, looked down, and spied Jasper sunning on the deck. This is not unusual, but he usually lounges on the deck floor, not the railing. It's a great place for him to enjoy the warm sunshine. Until a year ago, he was also entertained by birds at a feeder hanging from the edge of the deck. I moved that feeder to the front of the house, but I guess old habits die hard.
This afternoon I was surprised to see Jasper still in my yard. Why wasn't he out doing whatever he does during the day while The Beast next door is out of his kennel? I found Jasper peering from beneath Pappy's truck watching the bird feeders! Jasper is too well fed to need to catch birds for his dinner. I think he just likes to pretend he's a predator.
I imagine Jasper is inside the neighbor's house now. He always seems to show up at their door when they lock The Beast in his kennel behind their house. Smart cat. I hope he visits again tomorrow.
