I bought a Christmas train many years ago to go under my tree. My nephew, Sam, was intrigued by the train, and he would lay on the floor and watch it and sometimes knock it off the tracks for fun. I think he was five or six at the time.
As a teen, Sam would help me put the tracks together and place the train on the tracks and watch it go round and round. Then he went to Iraq in 2007. That year, his wife Jaime helped me put the train together. We took pictures to send to him. It wasn't the same.
In 2008, my house was in the middle of a renovation, and I didn't put up the tree at all. In 2009, Sam was in Iraq again, and Jamie was living in Manhattan, Kansas near Ft. Riley. No train. Last year my neighbor's children came over to set up the train. (Sam and Jamie came home for a week or so for Christmas, and I knew they would be busy, busy, busy.) It wasn't the same.
Well, Sam's back for good, and tonight he set up the train, and all is right in my world.
I'm dogsitting the neighbors' dog, and he was OK until the train started playing music and clacking on the tracks. Madness ensued for a bit.
Yes, all is right with my world.
What a sweet story! I love the third pic where Sam and the dog look mesmerized by the train - magical. I'm so happy that all is right with your world this year! Have a great holiday season.
ReplyDeleteDixie, What a great story. I'm so glad Sam is back for good. It must have been so sad for you during those years that it just was "not the same". Your neighbor's dog looks so sweet and I'm glad he is now used to the train and your world is all right once again. I'm sure you will have a very Merry Christmas this year.
ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful story! Our son just asked for and took home the old Lionel train set he remembers from his childhood. He and his brother cleaned it up last year, and it still works fine. So glad your train is being enjoyed again -- your photos made me smile!
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing this heartwarming story with a happy ending:) I love the photos, and it reminds me of the train set my dad bought for me as a child that my son and husband would put up and have fun with every year at Christmas! Now we gave it to our son for his family to enjoy :)
ReplyDeleteMerry Christmas!
Yes, it's about time that things were right in your world!! Your pics remind me of the train up in my attic, it belonged to my dad when he was a kid (1920's). Maybe one day I'll get it out and see if it helps improve things in my world.
ReplyDeleteP.S. I haven't forgotten about the Pa. Dutch card.
