Pattern Play, Day 4

Day 4 of Pattern Play class was Altering Patterned PaperShari Carroll showed us how to score and sand tone-on-tone paper to add interest. I CASEd her design. She's another of my favorite card makers. Brilliant talent!

Shari used a lot of pop dots on her card. Since my card will go to Operation Write Home, I needed to find a way to add dimension without making it too fat to go through the USPS without being destroyed.  I simply layered pieces of card stock behind the paper pieces.

Here's a picture of the back of the paper pieces I'm using for another card with the same design. I inked the edges so you can see the layers.

Echo Park - This and That 6x6 paper pad
Stash - green plaid paper
Simon Says Stamp - You (sentiment stamps)
Neenah - white card stock
Spellbinders - circle dies

  1. Very pretty Dixie, and I love your idea of the card stock backing. Perfect sentiment for our heroes.

  2. This card is spectacular and the use of a little added card stock instead of dimensional adhesive is brilliant!

  3. Dixie, this is so gently beautiful! The color combo is soft and cheerful. My first reaction..... "Oh, I want to make one like that!"

  4. I agree with Lynn, gently beautiful - a perfect way to describe it. I like the idea of using cardstock layers on the back instead of pop dots, too. I'm filing that one away for future use.

  7. Love this - Shari's was the card I chose to CASE, too! I liked this technique and will probably use it again. I like your fatter banner and bigger circle, too!

  9. Discovered your blog from a link about Any Hero writing tips and decided to read further to see what I have been missing -- LOTS. I have been concerned about using dimensionals too when only in one area instead of evenly distributed thickness across a card base. Your tip is very useful and I certainly have plenty of snippets perfect for this. Thanks! Carol in MN
